1978 Gibson ES-345 Conversion to ca. 1968 Spec.

A VERY confused guitar!

Wouldn't it had been easier to just buy a lefty?

One thing though...it was indeed played.

Some crazy pickguard stuff was going on here.

Away with the nasty volute and extra-wide peghead profile...

...and off with the black fiber veneer and "perfectly" shaped Gibson logo.

On to the body. Many maple dowels adorn the top awaiting sanding flush.

A new Holly peghead veneer is installed as well as a handsawn pearl Gibson logo and crown. Notice the new thin profile headstock.

A thin maple veneer is overlayed on the back of the peghead in order to provide a "clean slate".

This is such an awesome color...made so by the fact that it is SO rare on the high-end models.

Well...I forgot to document the remainder of the project...as usual. Anyway, here it is in REAL DuPont Pelham Blue (thanks Body Shop Supply!) with slight "greening".

Slight yellowing in the low wear areas.

Buffed and stuffed!!

Handmade 5-ply pickguard with wide bevels and somewhat "cupped"...like the real ones.

Awaiting an new owners belt buckle...aren't kids wearing big belt buckles these days?
